National Accounts The World Bank provides a selection of GDP and other National Accounts Indicators in its for subscription World Development Indicators data base. GDP data in pdf format is available here. Data for the latest year is available from various links at http://www.worldbank.org/data/databytopic/databytopic.html The Center for International Comparisons at the University of Pennsylvania publishes the Penn World Table online. This table provides purchasing power parity and national income accounts converted to international prices for 168 countries. The time series is 1950 to 2000. Access to information on the table and the table download is at http://pwt.econ.upenn.edu/aboutpwt.html . The data is available in csv format. International Monetary Fund (IMF) -- On its World Economic Outlook web pages at http://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/weo/2003/01/data/index.htm the IMF provides a series of downloadable databases in csv format of GDP and other data for more than 170 countries and 30 year time series. Explanations of the data are available on the page. University of Groningen, Groningen Growth and Development make available a number of databases on their site http://www.ggdc.net/icop.html. The following are available from that page. The total economy database -- data series on seven GDP related indicators for 74 countries from 1950 to the present, the ICOP Industrial Database which compares sectoral output and productivity for 30 countries in 16 manufacturing branches and the 60-Industry database which presents data on 60 industries in the 16 OECD countries. United Nations -- Data on the national accounts indicators related to the Millennium Development Goals is available at http://unstats.un.org/unsd/mi/mi_goals.asp . World Resources Institute -- The WRI provides online data in EarthTrends: The Environmental Information Portal". WRI provides a searchable time-series database with coverage of more than 500 indicators for 220 countries. Topics include Water Resources and Freshwater Ecosystems; Climate and Atmosphere; Population, Health and Human Well-being; Economics, Business and the Environment; Energy and Resources; Biodiversity and Protected Areas; Agriculture and Food; and Forests and Drylands. The searchable database permits searching for a single indicator but over a full range of countries and years. The result can be downloaded into csv format. The system also provides data tables and country profiles in pdf format, maps and feature stories. The database is available at http://earthtrends.wri.org/ .
