United Nations -- UN Common Database (UNCDB) The UN Common Data Base is a major source of economic and social data on United Nations members. I has more than 1,100 time series for 29 topics. Some of the time series go back to 1945. The UNCDB is available on line for a one year individual subscription of $US100 (users in developing countries get a 50 per cent discount). Data from the various queries can be downloaded in csv format (comma separated value -- read by most spreadsheets). The data base has a test site which allows the user to test the interface, including the different kinds of queries supported. Data available in this test site is very limited and is restricted to data from 1990. The test site is available from http://unstats.un.org/unsd/cdb/cdb_help/cdb_quick_start.asp . For more information on the time series available go to http://unstats.un.org/unsd/cdb/cdb_list_topics.asp where you will find a list of the 29 topics. By clicking on the topics you will be brought to pages which list the individual indicators for each topic along with information on the indicator, including the length of the time series. For more information on subscribing to UNCDB go to http://unstats.un.org/unsd/cdb/cdb_help/cdb_subscription.asp where you will find information on subscription rates for various types of users. |
