UNDP -- Human Development Report UNDP has prepared the Human Development Report since 1990. Each year the report focuses on a different aspect of human development. As part of the report and in an annex UNDP publishes the multisectoral data which is the basis of its analysis. The home page for the most recent report is http://hdr.undp.org/en/. All of these reports are available in pdf format at http://hdr.undp.org/en/reports/global/hdr2010/retrospect/ . The UNDP also prepares regional and country Human development reports which are available from the same location. It is also possible to download the statistical tables from the latest report as an Excel file, this file usually contains historical as well as current data. The report is available in many languages and hard copies can be purchased online. Probably the best known output of the Human Development Report is the Human Development Index which is "a summary composite index that measures a country's average achievements in three basic aspects of human development: longevity, knowledge, and a decent standard of living. Longevity is measured by life expectancy at birth; knowledge is measured by a combination of the adult literacy rate and the combined primary, secondary, and tertiary gross enrolment ratio; and standard of living by GDP per capita (PPP US$)." It is important to note that although the basic concept of the index has not changed since 1990, there have been subtle changes in the methodology of calculation from year to year. |
