 World Bank -- Free Multi-Sector Data Sources

The World Bank has numerous pages on its web site with free data, however in many cases this data is in text or pdf format only. 

World Development Indicators (WDI) sample database)  -- this database is a limited implementation of the WDI database. The data base uses the same interface, and provides data for the 208 countries for 54 indicators for 1997 to 2002 at http://devdata.worldbank.org/data-query/ . This database provides all but one of the indicators used in the Data Profile Tables and the Country at a Glance tables.

Data Profile Tables -- Draws data from the WDI database to create profiles of each of the 208 countries in the data base. The generated reports can be saved as html files. The reports can be accessed at http://www.worldbank.org/data/countrydata/countrydata.html .

Country at a Glance Tables -- These tables include the same data as included in the Data Profile Tables above. They present two pages of key indicators to trace tends in social and economic development for the past 20 years. The reports can be accessed at http://www.worldbank.org/data/countrydata/countrydata.html .
